  • Sermon | Dr, Rev Dennis Edwards

    Dr. Dennis R. Edwards serves as Dean and Vice President of Church Relations at North Park Theological Seminary, after having previously been Associate Professor of New Testament. He’s the author of several articles and books including the recent "Humility Illuminated: The Biblical Path Back to Christian Character" (book will be available to purchase after service). Dennis has been married to Susan Steele Edwards since 1982. They are the parents of four children, and grandparents of five.
    Dennis has three decades of urban pastoral ministry experience. He most recently served as Senior Pastor of The Sanctuary Covenant Church in Minneapolis, MN. Prior to that, Dennis served in Washington, DC and Brooklyn, NY.
    He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering (Cornell University), a Master of Divinity degree in Urban Ministry (Trinity Evangelical Divinity School), Master of Arts and PhD degrees in Biblical Studies (Catholic University of America). Dennis enjoys baking, playing his flute and saxophone, as well as weightlifting and cycling—as much as his body will let him.

The structure of the service falls into three relatively equal parts: Worship, Prayer & Praise/announcements, and a sermon. We will be streaming the service in #118 Parent Room and the Lounge near the front foyer area for anyone who does not feel comfortable worshipping in the sanctuary, or for families that would like to access alternative spaces. After service, join us in the Bridge area for fellowship, coffee, and snacks!

Movie Night
Join us on Friday, June 20th from 7-9pm for movie night under the stars! Bring your favorite blanket or lawn chair as we gather in the outdoor space for a showing of Captain America: Brave New World. RCity will also have a concession stand with popcorn, pop, nachos and more!

Hope on the Block On Sunday, June 22 at 12:30pm, we invite you to a community march that launches a collective effort for safety, community, and hope in the neighborhood. Moving forward, we hope to organize a calendar of weekly activity events throughout the summer for families and individuals of all ages. These events can include block parties, neighborhood clean up, festivals, movie nights, open mic events, sports games, picnics, door-to-door ministries and more!

-- Peace March begins: 12:30p at New Life Covenant (on Division & Homan)

-- River City & other locals gather at 12:30pm in the outdoor space, then proceed through the short alley on south side of the outdoor space to join in the march on Division.

Participants include: Pastor Isaac of New Life Community Church, Pastor David of New Life Covenant Humboldt Park Campus,  Pastor Taylor of River City Community Church, Alderman Villegas and Staff of 36th ward, Jamal Cole and staff of My Block, My Hood, My City,  Dr. Y'Shanda of Church Outside the Walls Ministry, Charneshia Collier Executive Director of RCity, Lorenzo Taylor of Puerto Rico Culture Center, Alesse Edwards Neighborhood Block and Development Organizer, Neighborhood Churches, business owners, and residents.
